The Postpartum Nutrition Certification

  • By Maranda Bower
  • In All Posts, Nutrition

So much of professional training when it comes to postpartum is an afterthought of labor and birth.

(A chapter in the back of a book, a session at the end of a conference…)

Even when I was pursuing my degree in Psychology, I couldn’t learn or take courses on anything related to pregnancy or postpartum. It was mentioned, but never an actual course or training. I had to go to a secondary source for an additional certification for knowledge on pregnancy and postpartum.

And it was STILL pregnancy AND postpartum…

The postpartum period cannot be lumped into the same category as pregnancy.

The physiological and psychological body of a postpartum woman is radically different and requires another level of care. Another level of training.

When I became a Certified Pre and Post Natal Nutrition Coach, NONE of this was taken into account, either.

The focus was on how to eat balanced meals. Why you should get more calories for breastfeeding. And the importance of staying away from junk food.

I hear from providers, nutritionists, and coaches all the time about how limited the information is, how there is NOTHING on this information for women or for those trained in supporting postpartum women.

And we need to face the facts:

  • 1 in 7 women experiencing postpartum depression. This does not account for other mood disorders like anxiety, OCD, bi-polar, and more OR those who don’t say anything at all.
  • Women in the 6 years after childbirth are 30% more likely to develop autoimmune disorders.
  • Half of marriages in the first year after birth are in shambles, barely holding on by a thread.
  • Medicated Mothers who feel like they can’t control themselves.
  • Households filled with yelling, guilt, and an absence of joy.

SOMETHING IS MISSING HERE.

Every single day I have mamas in my inbox, from those without support to those who’ve hired doulas, chiropractors, sleep consultants, counselors, seen all the doctors and more…

And they are still UNWELL.

They feel as if their body is falling apart. And everyone just tells them it’s normal.

The biggest missing factor?

Nutrition.

The deficiencies are destroying the way women feel in motherhood.

Depleted nutrient stores keep a body in a state of survival, increasing the fight, flight, freeze, fawn response within your body, releasing stress hormones, adrenal fatigue, lack of sleep, brain fog, immune dis-function, and so much more.

As a matter of fact, if you are experiencing postpartum depression, anxiety, or autoimmune symptoms, you can GUARANTEE you are a deficient.

Nearly every single study on the topic agrees (which is crazy to me to think that most women who come to me with a diagnoses has never been tested for their deficiencies first or were told their levels were in a normal range when they weren’t).

This isn’t something you just take supplements for either. If your body is not digesting and absorbing food well, it surely isn’t going to do so with a pill.

If you are a provider who works with pregnant and postpartum women, it’s our responsibility to support them and educate them on the significance of whole food nutrition, and how to eat in a way that calms the nervous system in the weeks and months after birth, and ultimately nourishes a mother’s needs so that she doesn’t experience postpartum depression and anxiety.

And this is why I created the Postpartum Nutrition Certification Program.

The best job in the world is holding space and healing for a new mother, her child, and her family.

But there is a massive gap in the information being provided. And to fill this gap, I’ve created a comprehensive 12 week program certifying professionals (and those who want to start a business in this field) in the significance of nutrition in the overall health of a new mother.

Here are what many professionals who are certified are saying about this program:

“Thank you so much Maranda. I really enjoyed the course and know that the information you shared with be of huge benefit to my clients.”

-Jojo Hogan, Maternal Postpartum Care Specialist

“I enjoyed this training very much. It was a “just right” amount of information… I have what I need to integrate this immediately into what I do, but it was a doable amount of work and time commitment for the benefit! Loved it!”

-Corinne Gutstadt, M.A, CLC, LCCE, EBB®I, Birth and Postpartum Doula

“Thank you so much! I talked the program up on the postpartum doula group, as I’m sure you saw and was kind of overwhelmed with the response. I have to say that *this* is the kind of postpartum work I am interested in doing. It seems a lot of others feel the same way. I am excited to implement all I’ve learned and it’s so much more than a nutrition plan. Thanks for doing this.”

– Tara Rice, Birth Doula and Educator

This is not just a Certification Program. It’s a movement to change the way women experience postpartum and raising children.

  • And within this movement, you’ll learn the significance of nutrition in the years postpartum including:
  • Specific foods that support healing faster and why they work.
  • Careful considerations around vitamins and supplements.
  • Addressing food restrictions and cultural practices.
  • Honoring and nourishing a mother with unique needs.
  • The biggest breastfeeding myth and how its composition varies based on mothers’ nutrient levels.

You’ll understand the complete physiology of the gut after birth and the delicacy it needs to recover.

You’ll get a deep dive into the science behind how postpartum women recover and the sacred steps they need to make a full, healthy recovery as strong women.

You’ll skip past all the mistakes and obstacles that many birth workers make when trying to help a new mom recover.

You’ll discover exactly how to use this program alongside your business to make more money and help more mothers.

You’ll know exactly how to share with a mother the best ways for her to heal her gut, get restful sleep, and create a recovery plan she can utilize for years.

Be sure to check out details HERE.

This is only open for a short window twice a year.

LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK! Hormones are LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK!

Hormones are NOT the ROOT CAUSE of dysregulation and imbalance postpartum!

NUTRITION provides the building blocks for healthy hormone production.

Poor gut health and lack of nutrients are precursors for depression and anxiety.

Many of the mothers we serve in the postpartum period have just spent many months growing a baby.

And many of them come to us with life and birth trauma that has their nervous system running on high, depleting them of energy and nutrients.

Not only did your clients grow a baby, birth a baby, and nourish a baby after birth, but the digestive tract of a postpartum mother changed to accommodate healing her body from all that growing, birthing, and nourishing.

That means that after birth, the ability to digest and absorb nutrients lessens significantly.

This is WHY so many cultures around the world have diets specific to postpartum, to help with this dilemma while simultaneously nourishing her every physical and emotional need.

If you are a provider and you’re not supporting your clients with at least sharing the significance of nutrient repletion (and therefore emotional and mental support), your clients are missing out considerably.

Inside Postpartum University, we're shaking up the system and giving providers the tools they need to support women in taking back control of their healing and recovery.
