Bio
Maranda Bower is a researcher, educator, and author whose work starts with a question postpartum care rarely asks: what does a mother's body actually need to recover?
For 15 years she has studied the physiology of postpartum recovery: nutrient depletion, inflammation, thyroid and hormonal shifts, and how they connect to postpartum depression and anxiety. She has published a peer-reviewed research synthesis on postpartum depression and nutrition. She founded Postpartum University®, which has reached more than 2,000 mothers and providers in more than 55 countries. Her Postpartum Nutrition Certification is independently reviewed and approved by the National Association of Nutrition Professionals (NANP) and has certified more than 250 providers.
Her new book, Everything You Know About Postpartum Is Wrong (Jossey-Bass/Wiley, November 2026), challenges the six-week recovery model and the assumption that exhaustion, hair loss, anxiety, and brain fog are simply part of new motherhood. It also lays out what restoring the postpartum body actually involves.
She has been a guest on 45+ podcasts and summits and featured in Motherly, Byrdie, and First Time Parent, and PPU research has been cited in TIME. She lives on a homestead in Alaska with her husband, four children, and entirely too many chickens.
